This is the result of my picture tutorial:
Ready? C'mon let's start to do this easy outlined text
Step #1
First, you should fill your white page with a solid background, but remember to fill the background with perfect colors that doesn't have the same/almost the same color as the outline you're going to put.
Step #2
Now, create your text layer, pick a nice font and font color, and put something on your text editor to edit the text.

Right click on your text layer on layer dockable dialog. Then click "Alpha to Selection".

Then, after getting your text to selection, go to select>grow>3 pixels. Then you'll see there's a big outline.
Step #5
Create a new layer and name it "Text Outline".
Step #6
Change your fore ground color because it will be used for the text's outline. After you pick, fill the selection. The image will look like this:

Click the layer "text" on the dockable dialog layer. Then, click the green arrow that points up.
